As a young singer Boy Mondragon was known as “The Michael Jackson of the Philippines”. He worked extensively for Vicor Artists and was particularly successful on Filipino radio in the 1970s being best known for his hit “Rain”. In recent years he has toured the Middle East and also become a member of the pinoy supergroup The Hitmen featuring Chad Borja, Renz Verano, Rannie Raymundo and Richard Reynoso.
Here we have Boy’s version of “Rockin’ Robin” (originally released as “Rock-In Robin” on the Class Records 45 single). It was written by Leon René under the pseudonym of Jimmie Thomas and recorded by Bobby Day in 1958. Michael Jackson subsequently recorded his version in 1972.
