Here we have ‘PY’ Pacifico Young and his Orchestra who were residents of CABOOM (Clark Airbase Officers Open Mess) in Pampanga. The Big Band consisted of 17 members including vocalists Connie Lopez, a well known radio personality who joined in 1962 and Cil Castro a well known entertainer from Manila who joined in 1959. The Leader Pacifico Young began his career at the tender age of 14. In a few short years he was considered one of the leading clarinet and alto-sax player in the Philippines. In 1931 he organized his own dance band and toured throughout South East Asia and The Pacific. In 1952 he set up residence with his band at Clark Airbase. On this album expect to find Big Band and Jazz standards with the stand out track for me being their version of “The In Crowd” originally released by Dobie Gray in 1964.
Just picked up a mint copy of this album last week, RCA Japan. I got it because the cover was nice and glossie and the record was in such great shape, Caboom, indeed!
