Hip hop music found its way to the Philippines through African-American, Filipino-American and Latino servicemen stationed at the numerous American military bases that were scattered throughout the country such as Clark Air Base in Angeles City and Subic Bay Naval Base in Olongapo.
George Javier (or Dyords Javier) is a Filipino singer, stand-up comedian, actor and hip-hop artist in the Philippines. He is the brother of Danny Javier (APO Hiking Society) and one of the originators of Pinoy Hip Hop in the Philippines. He was also part of the first Filipino noontime show Student Canteen. In recent years he formed a vocal group called ANG4 or ANGForgettables (with Isay Alvarez of Miss Saigon fame, Bimbo Cerrudo and Pinky Marquez). He is now the director of Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit or OPM.
Here we have his single “Na Onseng Delight”, a parody of Rapper’s Delight by The Sugarhill Gang, with lyrics by Ading Fernando and released by Wea Records in 1980.
